A sad day.

It was a rough day today.  Marty decided he couldn't start.  yesterday he was having knee pain and IT band issues and today said he was going to drop from the race.  It was tough to see him go even though its only been 2 days.  Marty had run across america back in 1992 and this was his second attempt.  He has offered to stay on to help jen and i when katie leaves and before adam arrives.  he will be a great help and has given many encouraging words through out the day.  I know that his staying will be a great relief to Mom.

As a recap, day 2 was the same as day one, mile for mile, rain drop for rain drop the exact same, very nice and very scenic.

Today I woke up and my legs still felt good, a little soreness in my calves but that loosened up before we got out of the hotel.  We ran through 2 storms today, both about 20 minutes or so and the last one really poured.  I ran pretty fast today- 36 miles in just under 5:15. (I know it doesn't sound to fast, but that pace for the last 3 days really adds up.)  We did get some great miles in today along the Tenino-yelm trail and ran through an alpaca farm with lots of animals milling about.  The second storm popped up at the end of the run, so I finished wet and a little cold but katie was there with a dry towel, warm jacket and a very nice suprise- fresh homemade cookies.

  1. There was a news article today about a guy running a marathon a day for 50 days. Please... :). Happy trails out there, Justin!
